From the 1930s presented in the original catalog. Very elegant suspension from the 1930s, all original parts, including the fine nickel-plated bronze frame holding a large molded pressed glass globe.
This light fixture was produced and marketed by Eugène Cherrier and Charles Besnus with the reference 2045 bis, as evidenced by this excerpt from their undated general commercial catalog, probably published between 1928 and 1930 (photo 6). The reference 2045 refers to a fairly similar model, with the same globe and claw, but a thicker frame. This suspension measures a total of 55.5 cm in height and weighs 2.2 kilos. Cherrier and Besnus acquired Roger Massin's lighting bronze company located at 36 rue Amelot in Paris in 1924. Eugène Cherrier was Massin's former employee, Besnus was his nephew. The two partners then produced modern lighting, in line with the style acclaimed at the Decorative Arts Exhibition, but continued to publish Massin's classic old models. Most of their lighting bronzes, both old and new models, continued to bear Roger Massin's monogram, RM. Eugène Cherrier continued the business alone from 1929 until his death in 1933. The business at 36 rue Amelot was taken over in 1934 by Charles Besnus, who took Pierre Maynadier as a partner. The nickel-plated bronze frame consists of an elegant bail cover, a hexagonal tube, and an open claw with four screws that hold the glass in place.
The original silver nickel plating has a slight bronze reflection, as on most lighting fixtures from the 1930s. The globe is made of frosted pressed molded glass, measuring 25 cm in diameter. Cherrier & Besnus had two models of globes produced for their lighting bronzes in a glassworks that has not been identified to this day. While the smaller of these globes, measuring 15 cm in diameter, is often signed, the larger one never is. Apart from tiny chips at the neck, this globe is in very good condition.
This suspension has been rewired with a new wire. It is equipped with a nickel-plated brass B22 bayonet socket. It is ready to be hung and illuminated. Any total or partial reproduction of the text and/or images in this ad is strictly reserved.
