Vintage Art Deco Bronze Plaque of an Amazon and Her Horse, Signed DNS, 20th Century
A fine bronze plaque in the Art Deco style, dating from the 1930s. The inscription “Amazone” (Amazon) identifies the subject, “DNS” the publisher, and “1932” the date of the work. The interlocking DNS monogram within the cartouche corresponds to the Diéval art foundry in Paris.
This Parisian workshop was particularly active in the 1930s, producing high-quality bronze artworks.
The back of the plaque has two small cylindrical projections, which are casting sprues left from the hollow-cast bronze relief process.
The overall aesthetic, the stylized, muscular figures, the geometric typography, and the treatment of the horse’s mane are all characteristic of the Art Deco movement of the 1930s.
Dimensions: 17.5 cm × 5 cm × 13 cm.
