France, Austria. Art Deco heavy bronze ashtray with buffalo motif, very good condition
Very attractive, substantial Art Deco bronze ashtray, made in France or Austria. Probably dating from the 1930s; the designer and workshop have yet to be identified. A well-crafted piece, both functional and decorative.
The water buffalo head is highly expressive, with influences from antiquity or Asian art. In good condition, with no significant dents or scuffing.
Beautiful natural patina from use, with a medal-brown finish and gilded highlights on the raised details. Maximum height: 3.7 cm. Weight excluding sturdy, secure packaging: 915 grams.
