Bronze animalier representing a bear lying on a rock observing a rabbit hidden under it. Dimensions approximately 15 cm by 13 cm, height approximately 12 cm. Charles Paillet studied sculpture with Georges Gardet. Paillet's first exhibition took place at the Salon in 1897 and he exhibited regularly until 1921. Most of his works were cast by the Thiebault Frères foundry, both in lost wax and sand casting methods.

Some of his works were also registered with the F foundry mark. Charles Paillet, Georges Gardet, René Paris, and others form the second generation of animal sculptors and exhibit their works between the great period of animal bronzes and the art deco period that will replace the naturalistic animal style.
