Sublime Bronze, Young Woman Signed Alexandre Auguste Caron. Some of his works are represented at the Musée d'Orsay and the Petit Palais in Paris. A few minor abrasions on the base. Born in Paris in 1857, he studied under sculptors such as Barrau, Roufosse, and Scaillet, and exhibited from 1893 at the Salon des Artistes Français, where he received an honorable mention in 1898. He worked mainly in bronze, bronze with ivory and silver, and employed brown and gold patinas, sometimes incorporating small gemstones. His works possess a typical atmosphere of the decadence of the fin de siècle, such as After the Bath, Slave for Sale, Atalanta, Venus, and Mlle. The often small bronzes are wonderfully patinated and very finely detailed, making them highly sought after internationally.
