Hettier & Vincent/Model-Verdun: Art Deco silvered bronze and molded-pressed glass chandelier. Elegance and simplicity for this creation by the duo Hettier & Vincent, featured in the manufacturer's 1929 catalog, model number 8172 (see images 13-15). The partnership between designer Charles Louis Hettier (Paris, 1868) and Calixte Vincent (Lachapelle-Graillouse, 1876 - Paris, 1945) dates back to 1909.

Having been based at 43 rue des Tournelles from the start, they gradually expanded their business and in 1929 acquired the Millet house on Place de Vosges (see image 21). After the Second World War, Vincent's widow ran the company until its sale. The model presented here for sale (number 8172 in the manufacturer's catalog) features a silvered bronze mount, composed of a central part with a double cone, one descending in steps and another in a flower vase.

Three applique arms with floral decorations that fit together continuously with three hexagonal section rods. At each end, the very characteristic godron socket covers of the house. An hexagonal bail cover with double steps crowned with a center with radiant motifs. In the 1929 catalog model, this chandelier is presented with pressed glass tulips from Baccarat. Here, the light points are equipped with three pressed glass tulips, frosted and slightly pink satin.

These tulips, called "Hollyhocks", are manufactured by the Cristalleries de Verdun, one of the most important lighting glassware manufacturers between the wars. The glassworks were located at 10 rue Dame-Zabée in Verdun, founded by Maurice Jules MODEL (Paris, 1900 - 1973) in 1928. Model began his activity in 1923 with the company Model et Lange at 64 boulevard de Ménilmontant, making luminous flowers and shells. From 1925, his company became Etablissements Maurice Model and the new installations were located at 18 rue des Fêtes, until the cessation of activity during the war. In the Verdun factory, Model produced art glass, especially lighting glassware, and also directed his creations towards the presentation of displays and glass showcases, of which he was the originator of their transformations.

He also created luxury bottles for presenting the perfumes of the great French couturiers. In addition, Maurice Model established a lighting company whose installations were made available to the military aviation in 1939. Most of Model's creations were intended for export, promoting French glass production internationally. The Cristalleries de Verdun were heavily damaged during the bombing of June 15, 1940, and subsequently remained permanently closed. The lighting glassware, often signed M.

Model Verdun, Verdun, Verdun France, is very remarkable in the production of French glassmakers between the wars, as it has a very fine satin finish that gives a satin appearance to the glass. The same signed or unsigned pieces are often found, and sometimes even the same model with the signature of another lighting manufacturer. The glassware presented here is not signed, it is part of the glassware produced in Verdun where the reason for the lack of signature is unknown. It is possible that the production intended for other lighting manufacturers did not indicate either the manufacturer or the origin. The same "Hollyhocks" glassware can be found in numerous lighting manufacturers' catalogs from the 1930s (see image n° 16).

Only the bowl of this model is signed M. Model Verdun (see images n°17 and 18). The three light points have B22 bayonet socket. Dimensions: 66cm (height), 38cm (width), 7.400kg (weight).

"All the lighting fixtures sold on our website have been restored by us in the strictest tradition of preservation and without any notable alteration of the original object. Many hours of hand work were necessary to accomplish their renovations. All the elements are original, only the electrical work has been redone to meet current standards but always keeping the original sockets, often for a bayonet bulb.

Bulbs are not included in the sale. For shipping, the glass parts tulips, bowls... are sent disassembled for better protection as well as (depending on the total size) some parts of the luminaire.

All our shipments are very secure.
