Art Deco sculpture of Diana the huntress, signed art bronze spelter, 1930 statue
Imposing Art Deco fireplace garniture from the 1920s/1930s, depicting Diana the huntress as a highly stylized archer, kneeling and drawing her bow toward a leaping gazelle. This beautiful set is signed Molino. It is made of art metal with a bronze patina of very high quality. Careful work on the musculature, with a lovely flowing drape. This piece is emblematic of the dynamism and elegance of the interwar period. It has a beautiful original patina and a veined white and black marble base. A dynamic composition in the 1930s aesthetic, with geometric forms and fluid movement.
The set is in very good condition overall. The patina shows slight signs of wear from use, which adds to its authenticity. The marble base is sound, with no major chips, only 3 tiny nicks on the edges (see photos), consistent with its age and barely visible. Very high-quality art metal; I almost have a doubt, but it would appear to be art metal. There is a commemorative plaque on the front.
This statue was offered to a breeding kennel of Breton Spaniels in the Somme that presented the best group in 1936 and 1937 (see photo). Base length: 57.5 cm.
A refined piece, ideal for decorating a sideboard or fireplace. Its horizontal design and the delicacy of the archer make it a superb object to admire. The total weight is 5.1 kilos, so great care will be needed when shipping this beautiful item. I therefore recommend a sturdy crate, strong support for the statue, plenty of bubble wrap, and great attention.
