Richard Ainsis, born in Nuremberg, studied in Vienna, Munich and Nuremberg. Later in his life (after 1930), he lived in Cincinnati until his death in 1945. From 1918 to 1930, Thuss was the chief sculptor of the Bergmann foundry and executed many highly prized sculptures signed Nam-Greb, Thuss or with a B in an urn (those not designed by Franz the Elder). Not all sculptures are signed or marked. Animals, erotic characters, orientalist characters, Roman soldiers, Western characters, historical characters, sports characters, lamps, desk sets, doorbells, bookends, mirrors, racist characters related to smoking, and almost all imaginable thoughts that could be transformed into a bronze were cast!
